William F. Aylward, 91

William F. (Bill) Aylward, originator of Bill & Bob’s restaurant chain passed away on Jan. 10, a month after his 91st birthday. While he sold the business, the legacy was continued with his passion for fishing. Bill’s boat, The Big Beef was well known in fishing circles and for a number of years he navigated down to Florida for the winter months. In later years Bill and his wife Mary Therese (Thibeau) wintered in Ft. Myers with a number of relatives and many friends from colder climates.

Bill was born and raised in Lynn, the son of the late William and Mildred (Fifield) Aylward, he was a graduate of St. Mary’s Boys High School. He was a WWII Veteran, serving in the Marine Corps in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. He was a life member of VFW 1240, Franco American 161, American Legion 351, Florida, and was a longtime member of the Lynn Yacht Club. He was proud of being a member of the YMCA for 75 straight years and of being the holder of locker #1 at the Lynn YMCA.

Bill was predeceased by son Daniel and grandson Ryan, brothers Bob Parsons and Lenny Aylward, sisters Flo Lennon and Eleanor Brotchie.

Survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary Therese (Thibeau), sons William R. and his wife Sylvia of Lynn and Ft. Myers, Fla., David and Betty of Thornton, N.H., Tom and Kathy of Lynnfield and Ft. Myers, Fla., and Tim and Sharon of Swampscott. Bill also leaves 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren with another expected in May. Additional survivors are his sister Margaret (Peggy) Aylward Nelson, a brother Ronnie Aylward and his wife Pat, sister-in-law Rosalyn and her husband “Tibby” Thibodeau. The extended family includes many nieces and nephews.

Service information: His Funeral will be held Tuesday at 8 a.m. from the SOLIMINE Funeral Home 426 Broadway (Route 129), Lynn, followed by a funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Pius V Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
