Walter B. Pohle Jr., 82

LYNN — Mr. Walter B. Pohle Jr., age 82 years, of Lynn, died Tuesday, at his home, after a lengthy illness, with his family by his side. He was the husband of Loretta (Grigway) Pohle, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage.

Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Walter B. and Marguerite (Philbrook) Pohle Sr. Walter attended Lynn schools and graduated from Lynn English High School, Class of 1953. He attended Wake Forrest University for one year, and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Korea for two years, and then enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves.

He was employed as a mechanical engineer at GTE Sylvania for many years until he retired in 1989. Walter was a member of Bethany Congregational Church, the Meadowlarks, Golden Fleece Lodge A.F. & A.M., Mt. Carmel Lodge A.F. & A.M., Sutton Royal Arch Chapter, Olivet Commandery No 36, Massachusetts Consistory in Salem, Aleppo Shriners in Wilmington and Bay State Lodge I.O.O.F.  Walter was a former coach for the East Lynn Little League. He built his own house, enjoyed fishing, working on cars and loved spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Stephen W. and his wife Erica Pohle of Lynn, Wally and his wife Sue Pohle of Danvers; one daughter, Debra and her husband James Russell of Apache Junction, Ariz., a nephew, Dana Jones of Lynn, 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. He was also brother of the late Arah Pohle-Owens, Dorothy Pohle-Jones and Werner Pohle.

Service information: Walter’s funeral will be held at the PARKER Funeral Home, 35 Franklin St., Lynn on Monday at 10 a.m., to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will follow in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park.
