Thomas J. Reddy, 81
LYNN — Thomas J. “Papa Tom” Reddy, age 81, of Lynn, died on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Ann (Gray) Reddy, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage.
A lifelong resident of Lynn, he was the son of the late John G. and Helen M. (McCarty) Reddy. He attended Lynn schools, including Lynn English High School.
Tom was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He had worked as a Letter Carrier for 30 years for the United States Postal Service and after he retired he had worked for 20 years as a Lynn school crossing guard at Union and Chestnut, Chatham and Essex, and Chatham and Ingalls streets. He had also worked as a data collector for the Henry Langolier, Small Computer Power, for the past 20 years.
Tom was an active communicant of St. Pius V Parish, and was actively involved in many charitable causes. He was a loyal friend and loved the role of being a grandfather. He adored his grandchildren and would be in attendance at all of their sporting events from youth league through college where he was known as “Papa Tom” by all of the other players’ families.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by their children, Thomas Reddy and his wife Andrea, Joan Kolodziej and her husband Steve, Michael Reddy and his wife Susan, Christopher Reddy and his companion Henriette Perkins, Patty Lauria and her husband Paul, and Matthew Reddy and his wife Felicia, all of Lynn; 14 grandchildren, Meaghan Reddy and her fiancé Ashley Guerrette, Jillian Phelps and her husband Will, Lauren Wass and her husband Corey, Brian Kolodziej, Colleen Kolodziej, Shannon Reddy, Charley Reddy and his wife Rachel, Katie Reddy, Jeni Reddy, Kristin Lauria, Matthew Lauria, Daniel Lauria, Liam Reddy, and Colin Reddy; five great-grandchildren, Cash and Calum Reddy, Liam and Rorey Phelps, and Finn Wass; a daughter-in-law, Karen Reddy of Lynn; a brother, James Reddy and his wife Carol of Lynn; a sister, Nancy Grimmer and her husband Fred of Beverly; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the grandfather of the late Casey Ann Kolodziej and Patrick M. Reddy and the brother of the late June, John, Margaret, and Laura.
Service information: His funeral will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. from the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Route 129), Lynn, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Pius V Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday 4-8 p.m.
