Thomas F. Gaffey, 83
NAPLES, Fla. — Mr. Thomas F. “Gaff” Gaffey, 83 years of Naples, Fla., and formerly of Lynn passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017, in the Sawtelle Family Hospice Home in Reading after a long illness. He is the husband of Mrs. Gail M. (O’Sullivan) Gaffey. He was born in Lynn the son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Fitzpatrick) Gaffey. He was raised in Lynn was a graduate of Lynn English and was a graduate of Hampton Prep in Hampton, N.H. He also attended Northeastern University. He lived most of his life in Lynn and the past 17 years in Florida.
Mr. Gaffey was a Korean War Veteran who served in the Panama Canal Zone. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 70 in Lynn. He loved Golf. He was a member of Gannon. He also was a bartender there and is credited with starting the 19th Hole. While at Gannon he also worked in the Pro Shop. Mr. Gaffey also had worked in the Pro Shop at Hillview Golf Course. Mr. Gaffey was very involved with the American Diabetes Association and raised thousands of dollars for them. He loved sports, his family and his friends.
In addition to his jobs as a bartender and working in pro shops, he was employed for 32 years as a ramp supervisor for Eastern Airlines. For 12 years he worked in the Veterans Office at Lynn City Hall and enjoyed helping veterans. He was also a Constable for the Essex County Sheriff’s Office.
In addition to his wife with whom he shared 59 years of marriage, he leaves his daughters, Shannon Falvey of Lynn, Stacy Downing and her husband Michael of Tewksbury, Shawna Curcio and her husband Mark of Lynn, six grandchildren, Micheil Martorano, Marissa Martorano. Courtney Downing, Carly Downing, Lacey Curcio, Logan Curcio and a great grandson Jordon Martorano. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. He is the father of the late Shelli A. Gaffey and brother of the late Margaret M. “Marnie” Blake.
Service information: His funeral will be held on Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, at 8 a.m. in the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Route 129) Lynn followed by a funeral Mass in St. Pius V Church, Lynn at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Burial will be private. Visiting hours are on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. The Knights of Columbus will hold a wake service on Thursday at 7 p.m. The family prefers donation be made to the American Diabetes Association, 260 Cochituate Road, # 200, Framingham, MA 01701.
