Theodora Christo, 96

LYNN — Theodora “Teddi” (Mitchell) Christo, age 96, of Lynn, died Saturday, May 11, 2019 at the home of her daughter, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late George A. Christo, to whom she was married for 62 years, before his passing in 2014.

Born on July 31, 1922 in Maynard and raised in Dorchester, she was the daughter of the late James and Jennie (Kyritsi) Mitchell. She was a graduate of Girls High School in Boston, Class of 1940. During the ’40s and while attending The Vesper George School of Art, she worked with her father at his store in Boston’s South End, The Appleton Spa. She often reminisced that her days working in the store were some of her most cherished memories.

Teddi moved with her young family to Lynn in 1956 immersing herself in the Sisson School PTA and her daughters’ Girl Scout Troops. She was a lover of the arts, music and painting, theatre and dance. She and George spent many great evenings attending the opera and concerts. She was an accomplished seamstress and crafter who shared these skills with others while teaching in the Saugus Adult Evening School in the 1980s. She took great pride in her garden and spent many years as a member of the Southern Essex Garden Club. Teddi loved playing cards and Scrabble, excelling at both, much to the delight of her grandchildren who adored her. She was happiest when the family gathered at her table for one of her expertly cooked meals, including dishes from her Albanian heritage.

Teddi is survived by her three children, Karen Ferris and her husband Craig of Holden, Barbara Rafuse and her husband William of Lynn, and James Christo and his partner Andrea Cohen of Salem; six grandchildren, Corey Ferris (Lindsay), Christopher Rafuse, Kathryn Geremia (Richard), Matthew Rafuse, Kyle Ferris (Kelly), and James Rafuse; six great-grandchildren, Kaelyn Geremia, Miles Ferris, Colton Geremia, Holden Ferris, Owen Ferris and Madelyn Ferris; her sister, Virginia Haywood; her sisters-in-law, Ellen DeNatale and her husband Joseph, and Dorothy Delery; as well as several dearly loved nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Esther Athanas and Lee Zicko, and aunt to her late nephew, Robert Athanas.
