Susan B. Cates, 70

Susan B. Cates, 70, of Lynn, Massachusetts. Fell asleep in death at home with family by her side, on Thursday, September 20, 2018.

Born in Hackensack, N.J. on May 23, 1948 , and raised in Totts Gap and Mount Bethel, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Albert and Mildred Koelliker. Called Susie and later known as Sue by her friends, she attended Bangor Area High School where she gained the skills necessary for secretarial work before graduating in 1966. Upon completing high school, she worked as a secretary in a local fabric manufacturing plant.

Married on December 12, 1970, Sue was the cherished wife of Frank N. Cates, with whom she shared forty-seven years of marriage. Together with their daughters, she enjoyed many camping trips in the woods of New Hampshire and Cape Cod in their travel trailer. She also spent much of her time with her family in various Christian activities including working on volunteer building projects to construct Kingdom Halls in the North Shore Area

Baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in April 1962, she moved from Pennsylvania to Massachusetts in 1968 in order to expand her Christian Ministry with the Salem Congregation. In her volunteer ministry, she assisted many individuals to learn about the Bible. She was an active member of the West Lynn Congregation for over 35 years.

Sue was employed most recently by G.L.S.S of Lynn as a companion for the elderly. She was appreciated by her clients for her diligence and friendship for over 15 years. Having grown up on her family farm, she enjoyed using the skills she learned as a youth to grow a garden of flowers and vegetables in her backyard in Lynn, as well as canning her home- grown tomatoes and peaches.

She is survived by her loving husband Frank, two daughters Kimberly (Cates) Rojas and Heidi Cates, son-in-law Eddy Rojas and his daughter Yarelis, brother, Albert Koelliker, in- laws Robert Cates and Harold and Nancy Cates, as well as several nephews.
