Rosalie B. Raye, 85
MARBLEHEAD — Mrs. Rosalie B. (Ryan) Raye, 85 years, of Marblehead, died peacefully on Sunday, April 14, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her four children, in the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. She was the wife of the late Frederick E. Raye, with whom she was married for more than 50 years until his passing in December of 2007.
She was born in West Lynn, the daughter of the late James C. Ryan Sr. and Rosalie (Demers) Ryan. She was one of nine children. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School. She lived in Lynn most of her life. She also lived in Venice, Fla., Center Ossipee, N.H., and most recently, Marblehead. Rose loved Marblehead and after her husband’s passing she moved there where she resided until her passing
After graduating high school, Rose worked for Traveler’s Insurance and left when her husband was drafted by the Army, and they lived in Virginia for a short time where they started their family. After raising her four children she returned to work in the insurance industry. She worked for Electric Insurance, Swampscott Insurance Agency, and finally Charles A. Slee Agency in Marblehead where she retired from after 10 years of service.
Rose was an antique enthusiast, and during her years in Florida and New Hampshire she became an antiques dealer. She was an avid reader of non-fiction books, mainly history and autobiographies. She loved pets and loved to travel. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Rose loved spending time with her family at their vacation home in Ossipee, N.H. There her children and grandchildren would gather many weekends during the summer months. Rose will be terribly missed.
She is survived by her children, Frederick Raye Jr. and his wife Karen of Lynn, Diane Killion and her husband Kenneth of Peabody, Ronald Raye of Westford, and Nancy Ritchie and her husband Brian of Sandwich. She leaves her seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She is the sister of Theresa Simard, Patricia McCarthy, Janice Torris, James Ryan, Jr., Thomas Ryan and the late Donald, Roger and John Ryan. She also leaves several nieces and nephews.
Service information: Her funeral will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at 10 a.m. in the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Route 129), Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Cremation followed by private burial.
