Roland A. Gilroy, 82
LYNN — Roland A. Gilroy, age 82, of Lynn, died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018. He was the husband of Velma Joyce (Richards) Gilroy, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage.
Born in Saint Andrew, Jamaica, Roland was the son of the late Ardon Gilroy and Lola May Barclay. He was raised in Kingston, Jamaica and was a graduate of Kingston Technical School. He had worked for 35 years in the canning industry at Metalbox Ltd., Jamaica. He rose through the entry level machinist ranks and eventually became the Superintendent of the entire production line. In 1997 he immigrated to Saugus and then moved to Lynn in 2001.
Once in Saugus, Roland began to work for the Kmart on Main Street as a store clerk/ maintenance man, a job he held until he retired in 2017. For many years, Roland has attended the Austin Square Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children; Steven P. and his wife Nicole, Donald G.A. and his wife Sandy, Karlene A. Gilroy, and Yvette S.J. Tenn and her husband Richard, his brothers and sisters; Mavis C. McDonald, Gloria Grant, Paul H., Marcia, and Trevor Gilroy, his grandchildren; Terry Ann Miller, Renee Jeanty, Ashley and Taylor Tenn, Zoe-Ann Power , Jason, Jordan, and Saige Gilroy, and his great grandchildren; Jorneila Bryce and Francois Jeanty V, and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Victor and Donald Keith Gilroy, and the step father of Earle Miller.
Service information: His funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the SOLIMINE Funeral Home 67 Ocean St. (Route 1A), Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visitation prior to the Service from 9am-11am. Directions and guestbook at Solimine.com.
