Roland A. Bedard, 94
LYNN — Mr. Roland A. Bedard, age 94, of Lynn, died on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019 at Pilgrim Rehabilitation Center, Peabody following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Catherine V. (Barry) Bedard.
Born in Salem in 1924, Roland was the son of the late Arthur and Ida (Plourde) Bedard. He was raised in Lynn and attended both St. Jean’s Grammar School and St. Mary’s High School before joining the United States Navy. He was an aviation chief radioman during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946.
He worked as a product manager for Mark IV Industries, formerly Tracer Lab for Electronics (LFE), for more than 39 years before retiring in 1991. Roland was an active member at the Sacred Heart Church, Lynn for many years. He was an avid sports fan, especially football. He enjoyed playing cards, bowling in the Monday night bowling league and loved to travel. Trips to Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos and summers at Tricky Pond in Naples, Maine, were some of his favorite places. He could fix just about anything and was always “Mr. Reliable” when it came to TV repairs.
Roland is survived by his children, Maureen Gilleberto and her husband Paul of Peabody and Robert Bedard of Lynn; his grandchildren, Katie Thornell and her husband Todd, Jenny Shirley and her husband Patrick and Michael Gilleberto and his wife Jennifer; his six great-grandchildren; his brother, Henry Bedard and his wife Pat; and his many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Roland was predeceased by his daughter Carol Butler, his granddaughter Liane Gilleberto and his siblings, Lucien and Louis Bedard, Rena Bastarache, Lucille Melanson, Rita D’Entremont, Muriel Kennedy, Bertha Sweeney and Irene Dupuis.
Service information: A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, Lynn. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be on Saturday in the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Route 129), Lynn from 9-10 a.m., prior to the funeral Mass.
