Robert D. Laubner, 88
PEABODY — Robert D. Laubner, age 88, of Peabody and former longtime resident of Swampscott, passed away peacefully at Beverly Hospital on June 23, 2019.
He was born on July 14, 1930 to the late George Theodore Laubner and Helen Elizabeth (DesFosses) Laubner. He was the loving husband of the late Mary M. (Dunn) Laubner.
Robert was born and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of St. Mary’s Boys Catholic High School in 1948 and was a member of the ROTC before he went on to attend Boston College where he got his degree in mathematics in 1952, where he continued to take place in the ROTC program.
Dedicated to his country and love of the service, not long after graduation, he enlisted into the Army where he became a first lieutenant in the Korean War. After his time in the Army Robert went on to work for AVCO as a mathematician working in the computer room on the large computers there for many years until his retirement. Always on the go after his retirement, Robert went on to work part time for the Ingalls School to help teach computers in their Magnet program for the children.
Robert had a passion in life for helping people. He took his passion for helping others to St. John the Evangelist church in Swampscott. Robert was very dedicated to his devotion of God and to his church where he was a longtime lector, communicant and was a CCD teacher for many years during his retirement.
Robert was the loving father of Catherine Laubner of Lynn and the late Mary Gambale; the beloved brother of Paul Laubner of Pennsylvania, John Laubner of Lynn, the late George Laubner and Phillip Laubner; the cherished brother-in-law of Francis Laubner of Peabody; the doting grandfather of Fredrick Gambale of Florida and Justine Gambale of Salem; he is also survived by many nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend Robert’s visitation on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 from 4-8 p.m. at CUFFE-MCGINN Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., Lynn, MA 01904. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at 10 a.m. at St. St. John the Evangelist, 174 Humphrey St., Swampscott. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Lynn.
