Robert A. Barrasso, 81
LYNN — Robert A. Barrasso, 81, of Lynn, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017, after a brief illness.
A lifelong Lynn resident, Bob was the son of the late Robert and Sylvia (Bastinelli) Barrasso. Bob graduated from Lynn English High in 1953 and then Salem State College. He also proudly served the Army in Cuba during the Bay of Pigs invasion. Bob worked for the Lynn School Department for 47 years as a teacher and special education supervisor until his retirement in 2005.
Bob was very involved with sports throughout his life. He played baseball for Lynn English, Salem State College, and then semi-professionally. He was scouted and had the chance to play professionally, but turned down the offer to stay close to his family. Bob was later inducted into both the Lynn English and Salem State Hall of Fame. He became an avid horse enthusiast; he was a member of the Turf Club at Suffolk Downs, and also enjoyed the Wonderland Race Track as well. Bob was also a member of the Lynn Meadowlarks.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Doris Roy Squires Barrasso of Lynn; daughter, Carla Burke Stockwell and her husband Paul of Worcester; four step sons, Ronald Marino of Florida, Anthony Marino and his wife Rochelle of California, William Squires and his wife Elizabeth of Georgetown, Joseph Squires of Florida; two grandchildren, Jared Robert Burke and Katherine Hamp Squires, and many dear relatives and friends.
Service information: Bob’s funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 13, 2017 at the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Route 129), Lynn, followed by burial at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Visiting hours will be Sunday, Nov. 12 from 4-8 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Lynn English High School Scholarship Fund.
