Raymond H. Ott, 85

SWAMPSCOTT — Mr. Raymond H. Ott, 85 years, of Swampscott, died at home on June 6, 2019 after a short illness. He was the husband of the late Margaret E. (Winslow) Ott.

Ray was born in Claremont, N.H., the son of the late Henry and Alice (Gould) Ott. He was raised in Claremont and was a graduate of Claremont High School. He moved to Swampscott in 1964.

Ray was employed with the Town of Swampscott, Department of Public Works for 24 years, retiring in 1996. Ten years of those 24 years, he worked on the street sweeper. He also worked for Stop and Shop for 15 years. Ray was a member of the AFSME and Federal State and Municipal Employees Union. He also served for nine years in the U.S. Army as a sergeant. He served in Greenland, Fort Benning and Ft. Devens, and with a Nike Missile group. He loved gardening, his family and especially loved his great-grandchildren.

He is survived by a daughter, Diane E. Homan and her husband Christopher of Swampscott; a son, Michael Ott and his wife Loretta of Branford, Fla; three grandchildren, Jessica, Jason and Eric; two great-grandchildren, Lucas and Noah; and one sister, Mary Jane Eastman of Springfield, Vt. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. He is the father of the late Susan Ott and brother of the late Caroline, Laura, Russell, Marjorie and Richard.
