LYNN — Marvin Lee Wilkes, 82, of Lynn, passed away at Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers on Sunday, Sept. 2. Marvin was the beloved companion of Albertina (Morris) Robillard of Lynn for many years.
Born and educated in Bessemer, Ala., he was the son of the late Marvin L. Wilkes Sr. and Pearlie (O’Bannon) Wilkes. He was the devoted father of Marvina Wilkes of Dorchester and Renée Horton and her husband, Michael of Augusta, Ga.; the cherished grandfather of Michael McMillan, Renée Patterson, Michael Wesley Horton and Gabriel Horton; the treasured great-grandfather of Mykel McMillan and the dear nephew of Irene O’Bannon. He is also survived by many loving cousins.
Marvin graduated from Dunbar High School in Bessemer, Ala., with the Class of 1953 and served in the U.S. Army in Alaska. Later, Marvin earned his associates degree at Boston University.
He worked in the Medical Records Department at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington for many years prior to his retirement.
Marvin was a loving family man who cherished his family and enjoyed being with his friends. He was a kind person who would help anyone in need. Marvin was a jazz aficionado and one of his greatest pleasures was spending an afternoon listening to his music. He was an avid fan of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. The family wishes to thank the Kaplan Family Hospice for their excellent and compassionate care.
Service information: Marvin’s funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8 at the CUFFE-MCGINN Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., Lynn. There will be no calling hours.
