Former meat cutterPEABODY – Mrs. Martha A. “Gertie” Bowden, age 84, of West Peabody, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, at a local nursing home. She is the wife of the late Ernest H. Bowden, Jr., who preceded her in death in 1998.Born and raised in Berlin, Germany, she was married in Berlin and came to the United States in 1948. Her only son, Peter was 7 years old. She resided in Lynn for 12 years and then in West Peabody for 46 years.Gertie worked as a meat cutter at the former A & P in Lynn for many years. She will be deeply missed by all her family and friends.She is survived by her son, Peter K. Bowden, a graduate of Lynn English High School and the Naval Academy, Class of 1964 and his wife Annette C. Bowden of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Irma Ryback of Berlin, Germany; three grandchildren, Julie Dunning, Cara Barstow and Kirt Bowden, all of Florida; as well as six great-grandchildren, Zach, Josh, Bristy, Eli, Tom and Keegan.Service information: Her funeral will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the SOLIMINE, LANDERGAN AND RICHARDSON FUNERAL HOME, 426 Broadway (Route 129) Lynn.
