John K. Martin Jr., 85
ATKINSON, N.H. — John K. Martin Jr., 85, of Atkinson, died on June 1, 2019 at Wingate at Haverhill Nursing Home.
Born in Saugus, the son of the late John K. and Mildred C. (Mcadoo) Martin, he was raised and educated in Lynn. He attended Lynn English High School, graduating with the Class of 1951, and attended Northeastern University, Boston.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a fireman aboard the USS Midway during the Korean War and Vietnam Era and was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal.
Mr. Martin worked as an auto body mechanic for his family business, Martin’s Auto Body, and later at Gibb’s Oil in East Boston. A member of the Elks Lodge in Revere, he enjoyed gardening, grilling, watching all Boston sports, especially the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Kathrine L. (Finneran) Martin; three sons, John K. Martin III, Thomas Martin, Michael Martin, all of Lynn; a daughter, Kerry Lisa Adie of Lynn; three grandsons who he helped to raise, David St. Germain Jr. of Atkinson, N.H., Richard Adie and Daimen Barker of Lynn. He was predeceased by a son, James “Jigga” Martin.
