Irene LaRochelle, 76

Irene (Martel) LaRochelle, formerly of Lynn, 76, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, Nov. 14 after a lengthy illness. She was the devoted wife of Arthur LaRochelle, with whom she shared 57 years of marriage.

Born in Lynn, she was the youngest of five children of the late Zelia (Savard) and Avila Martel.

She was the loving mother of Aline Proodian and Dave Ogden of Middleton, Mark and Janet LaRochelle of Peabody, Ellen and Tom Heywood of Etowah, N.C., Terry and Eddie Olbash of Georgetown, and Kathryn and Jason Reagan of Hendersonville, N.C. She is also survived by two brothers, Lionel and Anne Martel of Jefferson, Ga., and Fr. Leo Martel of Raymond, N.H. She was predeceased by her brothers Roger and Roland Martel. She was the proud grandmother of 13 grandchildren and an aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Irene was educated in Lynn at the former St. Jean Baptiste school and worked as an office manager for a medical office for several years before her retirement. She was at her happiest as a wife, mother, and homemaker.

She enjoyed traveling and vacations with her husband and family, volunteering at church activities, cooking, baking, and hosting many large family gatherings. She loved staying in contact with friends and family on social media. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed a good laugh.

During the last two years as she courageously battled her illness, she found joy in baking treats for her caregivers. She leaves a huge hole in the hearts of many people whose lives she touched.

Service information: A funeral Mass will be held Monday, Nov. 19 at the Immaculate Conception Church at 10 a.m., followed by a graveside service at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hendersonville, N.C. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Four Seasons Hospice of Hendersonville, N.C. Online condolences may offered by visiting
