Grace A. Bernardin
ANDOVER — Grace Bernardin (Mutrux), of Andover and North Andover, died peacefully on Aug. 26 at her home with family by her side.
The only child of Emile and Ann Mutrux, Grace was born and raised in Lynn. She graduated from Lynn English High School, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Merrimack College, and did graduate work in education.
From an early age, Grace loved to read and excelled in school. She shared her love of books with all in her life, especially her six children. After raising a family, she founded several bookstores in Massachusetts and New Hampshire and managed the businesses for 25 years. She took great pride in introducing fellow readers to new authors, believing you are never lonely if you have a good book.
Grace lived her life with intention. She will be remembered as a generous person who, together with her husband Bob, created a large and loving family.
She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Robert E. Bernardin Sr., in 2004 and her granddaughter, Julia Foraste Bernardin in 2005. She will be missed by her children, Ruth Ann Bernardin of Lawrence, Anne Eisenberg and husband Eric of North Andover, Robert Bernardin Jr. and wife Judith Normandin of North Andover, Peter Bernardin and wife Angela Steadman of Boxford, Mark Bernardin and wife Melanie of Andover, Paul Bernardin and wife Jeanne of Hopkinton. Grace is also survived by nine grandchildren, Daniel Eisenberg of San Francisco, Calif., Katherine Eisenberg of Brookline, Andrew Bernardin of New York, N.Y., Kimberly Bernardin of Cambridge, Elizabeth Bernardin of Boston, William Bernardin of Andover, Robert Bernardin, Thomas Bernardin and Matthew Bernardin of Hopkinton.
Service information: A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael’s Church, 196 Main St., North Andover, on Friday, Aug. 31 at 10 a.m. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to National Parkinson Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY, 10018.
