Gordon Borek, 89
SWAMPSCOTT — Gordon Borek, 89, of Swampscott, passed away on December 9, 2018. He is survived by his sons William (Evelyn), James (Laureen), and Scott (Jill). Gordon was a devoted grandfather of twelve. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Bror and Anna Anderson who raised him, his wife, Jo Anne of sixty four years and grandson Gordon R. Borek.
Gordon graduated from Malden High School in 1947 and from Northeastern University in 1956, after having served in the Air Force for three years. He was a mechanical engineer, founded the firm Borek & Associates, and later worked for the Massachusetts Port Authority. Gordon was elected to Swampscott’s Board of Assessors and served for twelve years. He was also active in local youth organizations including Swampscott Youth Hockey where he was the original incorporator.
Gordon was a member of Peabody Elks Lodge No. 1409; American League Post 0227; Aleppo Shrine Massachusetts Charitable Mechanics Association; and was a life member in the Masonic Order, including Past Commander of Boston Commandery No. 2.
Service information: A memorial service will be held on Wednesday December 19, 2018 at 9:30 AM at The First Church, Congregational, located at 40 Monument Ave Swampscott, MA.
