LYNN — George W. Demitropoulos, age 85, of Lynn, died Monday after a brief illness. He was the husband of Anna (Strongylos) Demitropoulos, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage. He had lived in Lynn for the greater part of his life.
George served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He worked as an electrical engineer for EG & G in Salem until his retirement. An active member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, he was dedicated to his church and his faith. An artist, he liked to paint and enjoyed woodworking. He was also an avid fisherman and golfer. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sisters, Elaine Moody and her husband David of Peabody and Joanne Tague and her husband Benjamin of San Diego, Calif.; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Paulette Langone and Alexander and Peter Demitropoulos.
Service information: His funeral will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 54 S. Common St., Lynn. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visitation will be in the church on Thursday from 9:30-11 a.m., prior to the service.
