Retired Swampscott police officerSWAMPSCOTT – Mr. Francis J. “Jap” Corcoran, Jr., of Swampscott, died Sunday, April 1, 2007 after a lengthy illness. He is the husband of Patricia (Ostaski) Corcoran, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage.Born in Marblehead, he is the son of the late Sarah (Traecy) Corcoran. He was raised in Swampscott and lived there for the majority of his life.He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict; achieving the rank of corporal.Mr. Corcoran was a police officer for the Town of Swampscott until his retirement over 10 years ago.He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church, Swampscott. He was a member of the United States Marine Corps League, VFW Post 1240, Swampscott, the Gerry 5 Club, Marblehead and the Swampscott Police Association.In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Tracy McCormack of Swampscott; a son, John Corcoran of Naples, Fla.; a granddaughter, Marissa McCormack of Swampscott; two brothers, Peter Corcoran of Michigan and Ronald Corcoran of Newburyport; a sister, Catherine Dichirico of Swampscott; as well as several nieces and nephews. He is the father of the late Robert Francis Corcoran and the brother of the late Richard Corcoran.Service information: His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the SOLIMINE, LANDERGAN AND RICHARDSON Funeral Home, 67 Ocean St. (Route 1A) Lynn, followed by a funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, Swampscott at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Swampscott Cemetery.
