Estanislao J. Grzela, 91
LYNN — Estanislao J. “Stanley” Grzela, age 91, of Lynn, died Monday in Salem Hospital after a brief illness, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Elida (Martinez) Grzela, whom he loved dearly.
Born and raised in Ozorkow, Poland, he was the son of the late Stanislaw and Wanda (Jehne) Grzelak. He served with the Polish Forces under British Command, 25th Lancers Regiment in Italy, Rank of Private with the Italy Star war medal. He was stationed in Italy, and England, and after serving in England he moved to Argentina, where four of his children were born. In 1965, he and Elida came to the United States, and had resided in Lynn since that time.
He taught himself to read and write and was able to learn several languages. He was fluent in Polish, Spanish and English, and could also understand German, Italian and Russian.
Stanley worked as a factory worker for Reese Corporation and for Phillips Lighting. He was a tinkerer and somewhat of an inventor. He had the ability to make something out of nothing. Known as “Grandpa Stan,” his grandchildren were his greatest joy.
He is survived by six children, David and his wife Michelle, Monica, Robert, Richard and his wife Elizabeth, Isabel, and Noami; 10 grandchildren, Emily, Evelyn, Colin, Madelyn, Kori, Kacey, Perry, Nicholas, Danny, and Vanessa; as well as two great-grandchildren, Connor and Saylor. He was the father of the late Estanislao Ricardo Grzela and brother of the late Matthew and Ted Grzelak.
Service information: His memorial visitation will be on Friday from 5-7 p.m. in the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Route 129), Lynn, with a memorial service at 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Directions and guestbook at www.solimine.com.
