LYNN — Eleanor Walsh, a longtime resident of Lynn, passed away on March 11, 2019 after a long illness. She was the loving wife of the late Michael Walsh, and daughter of the late Frank and Florence (Allen) Smith.
Born on Halloween Day in 1930, Eleanor graduated from St. Jean’s High School and worked in the healthcare and insurance industries before marrying Mike in 1952.
She began waitressing to give her the flexibility to raise and support her new family, and worked at some of the most successful restaurants in the area — Anthony’s Hawthorne, The Colonial, and The Hilltop — for more than 40 years before retiring. Somehow she also found time to volunteer for many of her children’s school and sporting events.
Upon retirement, she and Mike traveled to the west coast and Hawaii several times, and were yearly snowbirds in Naples. Summers were spent on Short Beach in Nahant with “the gang.” Eleanor was blessed with a large group of long-time, loyal friends, and her outgoing personality enabled her to keep adding new ones. Near the end of her life she added many more at King’s Beach Towers in Lynn.
She leaves her sons, Michael Jr. and his wife Jean of Jacksonville, Fla., and Richard of Lynn; and her very supportive brothers, Ted Smith and his wife Jean of Lynn, and Paul Smith and his wife Pat of Lynnfield. She was predeceased by her loving big brother, the late Frank Smith and his wife Carol. She also leaves many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews throughout the country.
