Claire Spina, 86
LYNN — Claire “Noni” (Champia) Spina, age 86, of Lynn, passed away suddenly on Friday, May 11, 2018.
Born and raised in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Alba Champia. In her younger, professional dance career, Claire’s extraordinary talent took her across the states performing with dance companies such as the Buddy Thomas Dancers, which was a prestigious dance troop performing in upscale hotels, cabarets and nightclubs on the Northeast coast. Her dance talent also awarded her an invitation to dance with the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo under the direction of famed choreographers such as George Balanchine.
After these amazing adventures, Claire settled down to raise her family, which was by far her most favorite adventure. She did, however, continue her love of dance, because her experience allowed her to become one of the better-known dance instructors with Gordon Ballroom Studios of the North Shore until her retirement in her later years.
She is survived by her daughter, Leah (Spina) Rowe and her husband Robert Rowe, whom she loved as a “true son” in every sense of the word, of Florida; her son, Joel M. Spina of Cape Cod; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Paul J. Spina and sister of the late Raymond, Joseph and Frank Champia.
The Spina–Rowe families would like to thank the staff at Element Care (PACE) and Associated Home Care for such outstanding loving care that they gave Claire.
Service information: A memorial celebration will be held on Saturday 3-6 p.m. in the GOODRICH Funeral Home, 128 Washington St., Lynn. For those who cannot attend her memorial celebration … save the last dance for Claire “Noni” and be sure to have an extra dry martini with lots of olives!
