PEABODY — Mrs. Catherine P. (Sakellson) Laberis, age 89, of Peabody, formerly of Lynn, died peacefully on Monday, March 18, 2019, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late James Laberis, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Lynn, Catherine was the daughter of the late Pericles and Maria (Nearkou) Sakellson. She attended Lynn schools and was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School, Class of 1948. Catherine had lived in Lynn until moving to Peabody in 2015.
Catherine was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church and the church’s Philoptochos and Ladies Society. She welcomed the neighborhood children to her home for many years, and had a passion for shopping and cooking, as well as entertaining family and friends on many occasions.
She is survived by a daughter, Maria Kameras and her husband David of Marblehead; a brother, William Sakellson and his wife Muriel of Peabody; a sister-in-law, Constance “Connie” Sakellson of Lynnfield, a “granddog,” Airedale Terrier Rosie; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Arthur Sakellson.
Service information: Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at 10 a.m. from the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 67 Ocean St. (Route 1A), Lynn, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. in St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Tuesday 4-8 p.m.
