Bernard T. Coyne, 86
NEWBURYPORT — Bernard T. “Barney” Coyne, age 86, of Newburyport and formerly of Lynn, died on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at the High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill, following a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Ruth C. (Moore) Coyne.
Born in Lynn in 1933, Barney was the son of the late James B. and Anna (Walsh) Coyne. He attended Lynn Public Schools and Lynn Trade before enlisting in the United States Navy and served during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a machinist at Microwave Research in North Andover for over 25 years and following his retirement, he became a crossing guard for the City of Lynn. Growing up, he spent a lot of time playing at Cook St. playground and met his future wife there.
Barney was a legend in park league softball in Lynn. He was a former player and coach of the Buckingham softball team and was a former umpire, President and Board Governor of the Lynn Softball Association. He was an avid Red Sox and NY Giants fan and enjoyed hunting. He was a member of the Connery Post 6 and Franco American Post in Lynn for many years. He loved traveling to Aruba and spent many summers camping at the Apple Valley Campground in Acton, ME.
In addition to his wife Ruth, Barney is survived by his children, Joanne Gallagher and her husband Paul of Newburyport, Thomas Coyne of Oklahoma and Timothy Coyne of Fernandina, Fla.; his grandchildren, Daniel, Kelly, Amy Lyn, James, Jessica and Justin and his many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Service information: A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 in the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 426 Broadway (Rt. 129), Lynn at 12 p.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be on Monday from 4-7p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to The American Heart Association, P.O.
