Retired railroad conductorLYNNFIELD – Mr. Alexander J. Michalak Jr., 88, of Lynnfield, died on Friday, Jan. 5, 2007 at his home after a short illness. He was the husband of the late Anna May (Flaherty) Michalak.Born in Roxbury, he was the son of the late Alexander and Carrie (Bailey) (Swan) Michalak.He was a World War II veteran, serving from 1943 to 1946 with the Army Air Corps in the European, African and Middle Eastern theatre campaigns.He worked as a passenger conductor for the Boston and Albany, the Penn Central and finally the Boston and Maine Railroad for 33 years prior to his retirement in 1979.He was a member of the VFW of Saugus.Mr. Michalak leaves a brother, Edmund Swan of Spring Hill, Fla.; a sister, Lillian Anderson of Billerica; a grandchild; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Ronald A. Michalak, grandfather of the late Timothy A. Michalak and brother of the late Herbert Michalak and Isabel McCabe.The funeral will be held on Monday at 9 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a funeral Mass in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Lynnfield at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
