SAUGUS – Saugus Police Lt. Ronald Giorgetti said officers are following up on several leads after the department released photos of two women suspected of hiding out overnight at Macy?s on Route 1 over the weekend.According to the Saugus Police log, an anonymous caller told police Thursday morning that she knows the identity of “one of the shoplifters seen from television.”?We?re still following up on that lead and we?ve had some additional developments that we?re still trying to follow up on to identify those,” said Giorgetti. “We?ve had two tips and another department call us with some more information.”Macy?s loss prevention reported at 3:44 a.m. last Saturday that two suspects had remained in the store after it closed and then roamed the store, according to a press release from Saugus Police. The suspects left the store “with several articles,” and the store is completing a list of what was allegedly stolen, said police.?We?re still waiting on Macy?s,” said Giorgetti on Thursday. “We can see that they?re walking around with clothing and other items, but we haven?t gotten a full, itemized list yet.”The police log states the suspects were seen on camera leaving the store at around 11 p.m. last Friday. Police initially responded to Macy?s at 11:08 p.m. Friday for a report of multiple burglar alarms and an open door to the store, and according to the log all appeared normal at the time. However, police returned to Macy?s at 3:44 a.m. Saturday where, after viewing surveillance video, realized two people had hid in the store, according to the log.Giorgetti said hiding out in a store overnight is a rare tactic, but noted he has seen it before.?Most of the exteriors of the businesses are alarmed ? but once you?re in the building, there aren?t too many that have motion detectors or 24-hour security,” said Giorgetti. “So now you?re free to roam the store, gather whatever you?re looking to get, steal what you?re looking to steal, break into whatever you?re trying to break into, and the business doesn?t get an alarm until you exit.”Giorgetti said he didn?t know where the suspects allegedly hid inside the Macy?s.Anyone with information should contact Saugus Police at 781-233-1740.
