SINGULAR CHARACTERS: HAWTHORNE AND THOREAU
June 30 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
“In this 50-minute online program, living history performers Richard Smith and Rob Velella will explore the relationship of Henry David Thoreau and Nathaniel Hawthorne using their original words to convey their thoughts on their 19th-century world, their contemporaries like Alcott and Emerson, and one another. This living history program, which premiered at the Thoreau Society Annual Gathering in 2014, gleans directly from letters, journals, speeches, and other writing to bring listeners back to New England of the mid-1800s.
A question and answer session will follow the program.
Between the two of them, Rob Velella and Richard Smith have been performing living history for more than four decades. They are frequent collaborators who enjoy bringing these writers of the past to life in order to broaden our understanding of their complexities and their humanity.
Registration is free for this online event. Donations are gratefully accepted to help cover program costs.”
