SOFTBALL
Last Wednesday, the rain suspended the much-anticipated game between the No. 5-ranked Peabody Tanners and No. 9 Tewksbury, a non-league matchup pitting two of the best softball teams in the state against each other. On Monday, The Tanners went home with the win, beating Tewksbury 4-2.
The Tanners were winning 2-1 in the bottom of the second, but Tewskbury had bases loaded when the game resumed. Tewksbury scored a run off of a walk to even the game at two.
Fast forward to the fourth inning when Elizabeth Bettencourt showed her speed, hitting a triple to right field. Bettencourt was brought home by Kylie Doolin on a fielder’s choice to give the Tanners the 3-2 lead.
The Tanners held onto the lead before adding an insurance run in the top of the seventh, thanks to a sacrifice fly from Isabel Bettencourt to bring home her sister Abby Bettencourt for a 4-2 lead.
Abby Bettencourt took it from there, striking out the side to give Peabody the win. Abby Bettencourt finished the game with 15 strikeouts and allowed five hits.
