SAUGUS — A 38-year-old man from Lowell was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries Friday morning after he crashed his dumpster truck into the wall of the Walnut Street overpass bridge on Route 1.
Police closed the right lane and breakdown lanes on the southbound side of Route 1 from 7 a.m. until 10:15 a.m., when bridge inspectors determined it was safe to open all lanes.
According to David Procopio, a state-police spokesperson, the driver got out of his 2012 Mack truck and fell to the ground in the middle lane immediately after the collision. The truck is owned by JRM Hauling.
Procopio said the incident remains under police investigation.
