You know what I’ve been thinking? Monday night belonged to Spartans’ superstar Niya Morgen who netted her 1,000th career point in St. Mary’s 83-25 win over Winthrop. Morgen (27 points) buried a jumper to give her the accomplishment, and now, her name will be forever read at the Tony C. Gymnasium. I’ve watched Morgen a handful of times this season, and there’s not many on the North Shore who can do what she does. If you think the strategy is to let her shoot, it’ll be raining threes, and if you force her to make plays, she’ll get her fellow Spartans involved in the blink of an eye. St. Mary’s has had quite the player – and person – representing the program the last few years, and I have a feeling the best is yet to come. Despite how unselfish she is, this week belongs to her. Niya, great week – no, great career.
