PEABODY — Families, businesses, civic groups, and individuals from Lynnfield are invited to join Citizens Inn for a day of giving back with fellow community members, Friday, Sept. 30 at the Citizens Inn Lynnfield Volunteer Day.
Volunteer shifts will be available in two-plus-hour intervals from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Volunteers during the 8- 4 p.m. shifts will spend the time stocking, unboxing, sorting, lifting, and moving food and non-food items for the Haven from Hunger Pantry Program. This work is done directly alongside clients.
Volunteers from 2 – 5 p.m. also have the option to volunteer at Citizen’s farm plot at Newhall Fields Community Farm, 189 Lynn St. Peabody.
Volunteers during the 4 – 7 p.m. shifts will assist with food preparation for the community meal, serving the meal, engaging with clients, and cleaning up.
The Food Pantry at Haven from Hunger provided more than 550 individual families per month from Peabody, Salem, and Lynnfield with fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, dairy, and non-perishable goods last year.
The pantry sourced over 1.4 million pounds from the Greater Boston Food Bank and local grocery stores and restaurants for disbursement in the pantry and for the Community Meals Program, which offers guests a filling, nutritious supper in a friendly atmosphere. Last year, the program served more than 16,000 meals at no cost to guests.
