MELROSE — A 61-year-old Saugus woman and a 46-year-old Saugus man suffered minor injuries after their car was struck by a Mercedes that veered onto the eastbound side of Lynn Fells Parkway Sunday night.
At 11:30 p.m., Massachusetts State Police responded to a multiple-vehicle crash on Lynn Fells Parkway in Melrose that resulted in a fatality.
A 2015 Mercedes CLS sedan was westbound on the Parkway, traveling at a high rate of speed. At the same time, a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta with two occupants was eastbound on the Parkway.
In a written statement, state police said that the westbound Mercedes crossed into the eastbound side of the road, where it struck the Jetta. Following that impact, the Mercedes veered left and struck a tree, then hit two unoccupied SUVs parked in the driveway of a home on Lynn Fells Parkway and rolled onto its side.
The operator of the Mercedes, a 41-year-old Randolph man, was pronounced dead on scene, police said. Occupants of the Jetta, the man and woman from Saugus, suffered minor injuries and were transposed to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.
The crash resulted in the roadway being closed at the crash site for four hours.
This crash is currently under investigation by the State Police-Medford Barracks, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. Troopers were assisted by Melrose firefighters, EMS and police.
