SWAMPSCOTT — A fire broke out at a daycare center at 172 Burrill St. Wednesday night, and one firefighter was injured in the response, officials said.
Firefighters responded to the fire at 8:12 p.m. and struck a second alarm fighting the blaze, said Deputy Chief Jim Potts. The department received mutual aid from Lynn, Salem, Peabody, and Nahant, according to the Swampscott Firefighters’ Union.
The Burrill Street address is the home of North Shore Stars Daycare, and the building’s first floor suffered extensive damage in the blaze, Potts said.
“The first floor will have to be gutted,” he said.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, Potts said.
One occupant of the building was able to self-extricate, according to the union.
