MARBLEHEAD — Vocalists Cameron Dobson and Mary-Alexandra Onstad will perform jazz standards and sing-along music on Saturday, July 16 in an outdoor “Pops on the Plaza” concert at the Church of St. Andrew.
Dobson and Onstad, both sopranos, will perform “Bewitched, Bothered & Bewildered” by Rodgers and Hart, as well as “I Got Rhythm” by George Gershwin, “Stardust” by Hoagy Carmichael, “I Could Have Danced All Night” by Lerner and Loewe, and other favorites. They will be accompanied by St. Andrew Music Director Mary Jodice, and the performances will begin at 5:30 p.m.
The concert will take place on the church’s new plaza, part of a refurbishment of the grounds undertaken in preparation for the 100th anniversary of the parish in 2024. Concertgoers are invited to bring their own chairs and a picnic supper.
“We are so excited about our new plaza that we could not wait to schedule concerts there,” said Jodice. “We have specifically scheduled this and two other summer concerts early in the evening, so that people can come and bring a picnic and enjoy music — and sing along if they’d like.”
Dobson is a graduate of the University of Nebraska and the Longy School of Music and a member of the St. Andrew choir who performs throughout the area. Onstad, a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music, is on the voice and piano faculty at the North End Performing Arts. She is a versatile cross-over performer of musical theater, oratorio, opera, art song, and more.
Tickets are $10 per person with a maximum of $20 per family, payable upon entry.
This is the first in a series of summer pops concerts, which are part of the church’s Music on the Hill concert series. The New Magnolia Jazz Band will perform traditional jazz, swing music, and blues at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 6. Rachel Marie Schacter will perform original folk compositions at 5 p.m. on Sept. 10.
Proceeds from the Music on the Hill series benefit the music program at St. Andrew’s.
