The Lynn 13-year-old Babe Ruth All-Star team finished off a pool play sweep Thursday evening with a 16-2 win over Somerville at Fraser Field.
The Lynners, 4-0 in pool play, will next play in the single-elimination crossover semifinal between Pool A and Pool B next week. Lynn will be the home team.
Jimmy Ronningen got the ball for Lynn in the abbreviated game (four innings due to the 10-run rule) and allowed only two hits. The first game in the first inning when Somerville scored a quick run. The other came in the fourth inning.
Lynn broke it open in the third inning with 14 runs.
“Everybody hit, and everybody scored,” said Sam Ohannesian, noting that Lynn batted around twice.
LITTLE LEAGUE
Swampscott 15, Pine Hill 0
At MacArthur Park in Peabody, Cole Kacuba struck out eight in the abbreviated game (3 ½ innings due to the mercy rule) without allowing a hit.
Swampscott next plays tonight against West Lynn at its own field behind the middle school. The other game tonight is East Lynn against Lynnfield, at Pine Hill’s Spagnoli Field. Both loser’s bracket games start at 5:45 p.m.
Swampscott jumped out to an 8-8 lead after an inning en route to the win. Miles Brown led off the game with a home run, “and that helped set the tone,” said Manager Jeremy Kacuba. “It gave the guys a little confidence.”
