MARBLEHEAD — For 100 years, the Marblehead Arts Association has been connecting residents to art — and the organization is showing no signs of stopping any time soon.
On June 25, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., the association will host a celebration of art and community with their centennial opening: The Sky is the Limit. At the event, MAA will open exclusive, limited-time exhibits such as Cliff Hauptman’s Oceanside Vector Art, which will be on display exclusively on the 25th.
Another limited-time exhibit is Will Pappenheimer’s “Skywrite MAA x 100,” a series of poetic texts that will be displayed above the MAA building through augmented reality. Skywrite MAA x 100 will run until July 5.
Catherine Amidon, executive director of the MAA, said she hopes to shine a light on even more voices and “move into the community more” in the next 100 years. She noted the inclusion of digitally-produced art, augmented reality, and the newly designated gallery for young artists as important steps forward for the organization.
Amidon described the centennial event as “pointing the direction of [the MAA’s] future.”
The free event will be held at the MAA in the King Hooper Mansion, which is undergoing a three-phase renovation and preservation ahead of its 300th anniversary. As Amidon remarked, this is “where our past and future are inseparable.”
