LYNN — St. Pius V School will have more than $150,000 in scholarship funding next year, thanks to a grant from the Catholic Schools Foundation (CSF).
The school was awarded $156,010 for the 2022-23 school year. The money will be used exclusively for scholarships to students in order to offset tuition costs, said school Principal Paul Maestranzi.
It will help 90 current students, as well as about 20 new students.
“The administration, faculty, and parent community are immensely grateful for our partnership with the Catholic Schools Foundation,” said Maestranzi. “Through this grant and other CSF-sponsored benefits and opportunities to support operations, St. Pius V School is a strong and viable option for pre-K-8 Catholic education in the city of Lynn and surrounding communities.”
This grant is part of a $7.3 million dollar effort by CSF to support Catholic school students in the Archdiocese of Boston. Students in K-8 are eligible to benefit and are guaranteed their scholarship every year they are enrolled in the school, as long as they meet eligibility requirements.
The grant will also help to fund up to three Peter Lynch Scholars, which are students who have excellent academic achievements and work ethic, care for others in the school community and have had their lives impacted significantly by a Catholic education, said St. Pius faculty member Christine Melo.
“CSF is the premier institution for granting aid to financially in-need students to attend Catholic elementary and high schools in the Archdiocese of Boston,” said Melo. “On an annual basis, CSF distributes more than 3,900 scholarships awarded with over $10.6 million a year.”
Maestranzi encourages anyone interested in learning more about St. Pius V School to attend the Open House on Monday, April 25 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at 28 Bowler St. in Lynn.
