SWAMPSCOTT — Doug Thompson, candidate for state representative in the 8th Essex District, has named former Select Board chair Naomi Dreeben as his campaign manager.
Dreeben served on the board from 2014 to 2020, and was chair from 2015 to 2018.
“Naomi brings her exceptional knowledge of the community, a stellar reputation and a passion for effective governance to this campaign,” said Thompson. “Our commitment to a healthy environment, accessible health care, affordable housing, and a high quality of life in the district are entirely aligned.
“Her enthusiasm for working on behalf of the residents of Marblehead, Swampscott, and Lynn can’t be beat. And we both share a track record of successfully making change happen, not just talking about it.”
Thompson noted that Dreeben’s tenure on the Select Board saw that the Machon School was transformed into affordable senior housing, the Greenwood School project was resolved, the Rail Trail was funded and begun, zero-based budgeting was adopted, tax rates were curtailed, the new elementary school was approved by the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA), the town grew excess tax-levy capacity, and Swampscott’s credit rating rose from AA to AA+.
While serving on the board, Dreeben worked at Salem State University and was a program director for several local innovative senior healthcare organizations. She also chaired the Swampscott campaign to elect Elizabeth Warren to the U.S. Senate in 2012 and worked to elect Lori Ehrlich to the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 2008.
Dreeben has lived in Swampscott with her husband, Tom, for 23 years; belongs to Congregation Shirat Hayam; and has two children who are graduates of Swampscott High School.
