BOSTON — Transit Police Chief Ken Green, a native of Lynn, has reacted to an attack in a Brooklyn subway that occurred on Tuesday afternoon.
Since the attack, Green said the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) is closely monitoring the events in New York and Transit Police officials are working with federal, state and local law-enforcement partners to share and obtain any available information.
“At this time, there is no evidence, credible or otherwise, to suggest the MBTA system is a potential target,” Green said.
Green said the Transit Police employ a multi-layered approach to safeguarding the MBTA system. To reassure riders, they have increased the number of uniformed officers on the system and deployed additional explosive-detection K9 teams to perform protective sweeps.
“There are also actions that we will employ that will not be visible to the riding public,” Green said. “The safety and security of our customers and employees is the MBTA’s top priority.”
Green asks any riders using the T who see anything out of the ordinary to contact Transit Police or MBTA personnel immediately.
