LYNNFIELD — There were no surprises in Tuesday’s town election as incumbents ruled the day.
Select Board Chair Richard Dalton was re-elected to another three-year term, easily defeating challenger Robert Gillon by a 967-386 margin.
In the School Committee race, Vice Chair Stacy Dahlstedt topped the charts with 933 votes while Chair Richard Sjoberg had 853 votes. Both were re-elected to three-year terms. Challenger Corrie Luongo was a distant third with 575 votes.
All vote counts are preliminary.
Dalton said he was very happy to be re-elected and looks forward to serving another three years alongside colleagues Phil Crawford and Joe Connell.
“We work well together as a team and we will continue to do what the board has done these last six years since I’ve been on it, and that’s doing what’s in the best interests of the town,” he said.
Sjoberg said he was honored by the “definitive results” of the election.
“Congratulations also to Stacy Dahlstedt,” said Sjoberg. “I am proud of the positive campaign I ran, sharing each of the school district’s accomplishments and my small role in that success. Tonight I will take a breath, spend some time with my family, then get back to work as we continue to move the great Lynnfield school district forward.”
“I’m thrilled with the results and it’s an honor to have been re-elected,” said Dahlstedt. “I look forward to continuing to serve the students and families in the district. I am thrilled and extremely thankful.”
Luongo was gracious in defeat.
“While running for an elected seat is never easy, personally, this election has been a wonderful experience,” she said. “It has been wonderful meeting new members of the community. Lynnfield (had) some tough decisions to make on Election Day.”
Town Clerk Linda Emerson, whose day began bright and early at 5 a.m. at Town Hall, said the election went smoothly with no glitches
“It went very well,” she said. “It was a slow start but picked up around 5 and was pretty steady since then.”
While Emerson said she had only preliminary numbers, she felt the voting turnout was up from last year when only 12 percent of registered voters cast ballots.
Assessor Richard O’Neil was unopposed and re-elected to a three-year term, topping all candidates with 1,033 unofficial votes.
Brian R. Charville ran unopposed and was re-elected to another five-year term on the Planning Board.
Town Moderator Joseph A. Markey ran unopposed and was re-elected to a one-year term. Library Trustees Faith C Honer-Coackley and Richard J. Mazzola also ran unopposed and were re-elected to three-year terms. Stephanie A. Petty ran unopposed for Housing Authority and was re-elected to another five-year term.
