MARBLEHEAD — An 18-year-old man died from his injuries Friday afternoon after an early-morning crash that resulted in his car falling off the causeway and landing halfway down on the harbor side of the road, police said.
Police identified the man as James Galante, a resident of Marblehead.
“On behalf of the entire Marblehead Police Department, I would like to offer our sincerest condolences to the family and loved ones of 18-year-old James Galante, of Marblehead, who tragically died this afternoon from his injuries suffered in a motor vehicle crash early (Friday) morning,” said Police Chief Dennis King.
“This will surely have a great impact on our tight-knit community, and we are working closely with the Marblehead school district to ensure they will be supported in the coming days and weeks.”
Marblehead Police said the crash occurred at approximately 3 a.m. When police and firefighters responded to the scene, they found a vehicle halfway down the Causeway, with extensive damage and one person inside. Galante was taken by ambulance to a local hospital in critical condition, and later died at the hospital, police said.
The crash is under investigation by the Marblehead Police Department and State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
