The Lynn English boys basketball team rebounded from perhaps its worst loss of the season with a 64-57 win on the road against Somerville Wednesday.
The win comes after the Bulldogs, 13-4, loss to Beverly Tuesday night, 85-54.
Tyrese Melo Garcia led the way for English with 30 points, five assists and five rebounds. Yael Vizcaino chipped in with 10 points for the Bulldogs.
“It was absolutely great to come back with a win after last night,” said English coach Alvin Abreu.
The Bulldogs are back in action Saturday in the Spartan Classic at St. Mary’s, where they will play Springfield Central.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Everett 62, Classical 48
At Classical on Senior Night, the Rams fought tooth and nail against the Crimson Tide for three quarters, but Everett sprinted away with the win in the final quarter.
“It was a great game,” said Classical coach Marvin Avery. “I’m really proud of my guys.”
Jadden Gonzalez led Classical with 20 points and six assists while Nathan Reyes had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Classical is at Revere on Thursday.
Wakefield 73, Lynn Tech 35
At Wakefield, Ederick Gonzalez had 12 pounds and 11 rebounds while Jayden Welch scored six points and pulled down 12 rebounds.
The Tigers are at Swampscott Friday.
Fenwick 70, Salem Academy 57
At Fenwick on Senior Night, Robert Greener had eight points, eight steals and seven rebounds for the Crusaders.
Jason Romans had 17 points, seven assists and seven rebounds; and Che Hanks had 16 points.
Salem 87, Winthrop 43
At Winthrop, Darlin Santiago had 27 points and seven three-pointers. Preston Abreu helped the Witches with 21 points while Brayson Green had 15 and Chris Qirjazi had 10.
Salem, 14-3, is at Wakefield Friday.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
English 88, Somerville 27
At English, the Bulldogs raised their record to 15-3 on the season as all 10 players scored.
Standouts were Jaeleigh Perry (22 points, 16 rebounds); Alisha Jean (10 points, 11 rebounds); Jari Perez (18 points, four rebounds); Matty Laurino (12 points, six steals) and Ararat Gebreyesus (eight points, two assists).
BOYS HOCKEY
St. John’s Prep 4, Franklin 3
Tommy Sarni scored twice to lead the Eagles. The game-winning goal came from Ben Macgilbray on a power play.
St John’s Prep outshot Franklin, 43-26.
Beverly 3, Saugus 1
Massey Ventre scored the lone goal for Saugus as the Sachems fell to Beverly. Goalie Matt Smith played well defensively with 30 saves.
GIRLS HOCKEY
Winthrop 4, Masconomet 3
Winthrop’s Emma Holmes led the charge for Winthrop with two goals, Amelia Spencer had a goal and Kendall Brant also had a goal. Mia Martucci also contributed to the offensive attack with two assists.
St. Mary’s 8, Williams 1
The Spartans secured their spot in Thursday’s Catholic Central League Classic championship game with a win over Archbishop Williams.
Jenna Chaplain led the offensive effort for St. Mary’s with four goals.
