The Marblehead boys hockey team finally got the chance to play in front of a crowd and didn’t let it go to waste Saturday afternoon, notching a 4-1 win over Triton in a non-conference battle at Lynn’s Connery Rink.
Connor Jalbert led the offensive attack for Marblehead with two goals, while Christopher Locke contributed one goal and one assist. Carter Laramie added one goal, Aidan Jalbert had two assists and Hogan Sedky had one assist. Goalie Nick Peters earned the victory between the pipes.
Marblehead (4-4-1) travels to Gloucester Wednesday (6).
BOYS HOCKEY
Lynnfield 5, Groton-Dunstable 1
The Pioneers, who were ranked as the No. 10 team in Division 3 by the latest MIAA power rankings, continued their streak of incredible play with another non-conference win Saturday.
Chase Carney scored two goals to lead the way, while Nick Lucich notched one goal and one assist. Aidan Burke and Lucas Cook each scored one goal, with Cook’s coming as the first of his varsity career. Drew Damiani continued his stellar season on the blue line with three assists, while Patrick Barrett and Will Steadman each had one assist.
Lynnfield (9-2-0) plays on the road at Triton Wednesday (7).
Newburyport 4, St. Mary’s 3
Despite the loss, the Spartans got goals from Daniel Domeniconi, Brady Bullock and Jack Carpenter.
St. Mary’s (4-6-2) hosts Winchester Wednesday night (7).
Saugus 1, Beverly 1
The story of the night for the Sachems was goalie Matt Smith, who faced a daunting 40 shots and turned away all but one of them to help Saugus earn the draw.
The lone goal on the day for the Sachems came from Massey Ventre.
Saugus (4-6-1) hosts Matignon Wednesday night (6:50).

Winthrop (4-4-0) hosts Cambridge Monday (5:30).
GIRLS HOCKEY
Peabody/Lynnfield 6, Masconomet 0
Jenna DiNapoli and Sarah Powers each notched four points in the victory for the Tanners, while Hannah Gromko had three points and Cate Kampersal had two. Goalie Audrey Buckley picked up the shutout victory in net.
Peabody/Lynnfield (7-2-1) travels to Gloucester Wednesday (4).
St. Mary’s 3, Bishop Fenwick 0
The Spartans came out on top behind goals from Maggie Pierce, Kelly Lovett and Tia Picardi. Goalie Rylee Smith picked up the shutout victory in net.
St. Mary’s (6-2-2) and Bishop Fenwick (4-4-1) will meet again Wednesday evening (5) in a bout at Connery Rink.
Winthrop 5, Beverly/Danvers 2
Behind a hat trick from Julia Holmes, the Vikings remained undefeated on the season and kept their spot at the top of the Northeastern Hockey League.
Mia Martucci and Tegan Pereira each scored one goal, while Emma Holmes and Talia Martucci each had three assists. Goalie Summer Tallent notched 17 saves to notch her 48th career win in net.
Winthrop (7-0-1) hosts Latin Academy Tuesday (6).
BOYS BASKETBALL
St. John’s Prep 78, Lowell 46
Mike O’Brien exploded for 28 points in just three quarters of play to lead the Eagles to the blowout victory Sunday, while Jack Perry added nine points. Kyle Webster and Jack Angelopolus each scored seven points in the win.
St. John’s Prep (3-4) plays on the road at Xaverian Tuesday (6:30).

The Eagles picked up yet another quad meet sweep over the weekend, knocking off defending Rhode Island state champion Mt. Hope in the process.
Going 4-0 on the day for the Prep were Tyler Knox (126 pounds), Adam Schaeublin (132), Ryan DeSouza (145), Rawson Iwanicki (152), Marc Pineiro (195) and Jack Blizard (220). Making his varsity debut, freshman Ben Stephens had a solid day after going 2-2 at 120 pounds.
St. John’s Prep (28-0) travels to BC High Wednesday (5:30).
SWIMMING
Matignon 90, Bishop Fenwick 73
Audrey Waldinger had a solid day despite the loss, taking first place in the 100 backstroke (1:06.75) and also qualifying for states in the 100 butterfly (1:04.88). Also placing first in the 200 individual medley was Meredith Yuhasz with a time of 2:18.94.
In the relay events, the team of Waldinger, Yuhasz, Hannah English and Hannah Ryan won the 200 medley relay (2:03.03) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:49.61).
