The Bishop Fenwick girls basketball team rebounded from a tough loss to rival St. Mary’s Wednesday with an incredible performance Thursday, notching a 74-29 win over Beverly in a non-conference bout.
But the big story of the night centered around Fenwick senior captain Olivia Found, who scored her 1,000th career point en route to the win. Found, who transferred to Fenwick prior to her junior season, finished with 18 points, nine steals and six assists. She is the fifth girls player in Fenwick program history to reach the 1,000-point mark for her career.
Sophomore Cecilia Kay also had a huge game for the Crusaders, notching a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Senior captains Nasha Arnold (14 points) and Maria Orfanos (10 points) also played well in the victory.
Fenwick (5-3) will play its third game in as many days Friday evening (6:30) when it takes on Arlington Catholic.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Revere 45, Malden 34
Despite missing a number of players due to injury, the Patriots rallied behind strong performances from both seniors and underclassmen to earn the win.
Revere (4-2) has a quick turnaround with a game against Winthrop Friday evening (5).
BOYS BASKETBALL
Winthrop 59, Pioneer Charter 31
The Vikings picked up their second win in as many days, going on the road to pick up a non-conference victory.
Five Winthrop players finished the game in double figures, with junior Zach Bogusz leading the charge with 15 points.
Winthrop (4-4) plays on the road at Northeast Monday (5:30).
Revere 65, Malden 59
Revere (4-2) hosts Everett Wednesday night (7).
GIRLS HOCKEY
Winthrop 7, Medford/Malden 0
The Vikings continued to dominate on its home ice at Larsen Rink Thursday evening.
The star of the night was Lily Tallent, who scored two goals and played a fantastic game overall, according to Winthrop coach Anthony Martucci.
“Lily is an incredible three-zone player who plays all of the important defensive shifts,” said Martucci. “So to see her chip in offensively with two goals was great to watch.”
Emma Holmes also scored two goals in the victory, while Julia Holmes, Talia Martucci and Reese Ferrara each scored one goal — with the latter notching her first career varsity tally.
Senior goalie Summer Tallent continued to add to her program record for career wins and career shutouts, capturing her 46th win and 18th shutout. Eighth grader Riley Towse saw time in net in the third period, which were her first career varsity minutes.
Winthrop (5-0-1) hosts Gloucester Saturday afternoon (1:30) at Larsen Rink.
SWIMMING
Lynn Classical 90, Somerville 71
Winners on the night for the Rams were Aleana Benedetto in the 100 freestyle and the 200 freestyle, Camille Mendonca in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, Sydney Finnigan in the 100 individual medley and the 500 freestyle and Daniel Puma in the 50 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke.
In the relay events, the team of Mendonca, Puma, Finnigan and Yassine Bakhouch won the 200 medley relay and the team of Mendonca, Finnigan, Benedetto and Ethan Wilson won the 400 freestyle relay.
Archbishop Williams 86, Bishop Fenwick 79
Despite the loss, the Crusaders got great performances from Hannah English in the 200 freestyle (2:17.3), Meredith Yuhasz in the 200 individual medley (2:22.4) and the 500 freestyle (5:28), Hannah Ryan in the 100 breaststroke (1:17) and the 400 freestyle relay team of Yuhasz, Ryan, Audrey Waldinger and Madison Moseley (4:13.6).
