The Peabody girls basketball team avoided its first losing streak of the season in dramatic fashion Monday night, rallying back from a 14-point halftime deficit to pull off a 55-54 win over Billerica in a non-conference battle on the road.
It all came down to the final three seconds for the Tanners, who didn’t lead until the final buzzer sounded. With the game tied at 54-54 and three seconds left to play, Logan Lomasney was fouled and went to the free-throw line. After missing the first shot, Lomasney drained the second one and gave the Tanners the victory.
Taylor Bettencourt led the way with 14 points in the win, while Abby Bettencourt added 12 points. Emma Bloom notched 11 points and eight rebounds, while Lomasney finished the game with 10 points and nine rebounds.
The Tanners were slow to get going in this one, only netting 24 points at halftime and struggling on defense for the second game in a row. But Peabody turned things around in the second half, outscoring the Indians 31-16 in the second half to pull out the thrilling come-from-behind victory.
Peabody (6-1) is off until Friday (7) when it hosts Masconomet.
