The Marblehead indoor track team went on the road up to Gloucester and came home with a pair of wins on both the boys and girls sides, as the Magicians swept a Northeastern Conference tri-meet against the Fishermen and Masconomet Thursday evening.
On the boys side, Marblehead took down Gloucester by a score of 58-28 and then topped Masconomet by a score of 48-38.
The Magicians only got two wins, from Schuyler Schmitt in the high jump (five feet, eight inches) and Sebastian Pantzer in the 300-meter (40.9 seconds), but there were a host of other performances that helped get Marblehead over the edge. Riley Schmitt posted a second-place finish in the shot put (35-2 1/2), while Schuyler Schmitt placed second in the 50 hurdles (9.2). James Galante finished second in the 55 dash (7.02), while Harrison Curtis grabbed a tie for third in the same event (7.1). Marblehead also got second-place finishes from Tyler Henlotter in the 300 (41.4), Errol Apostolopoulos in the 1000 (2:55.4), Peter Clifford in the one-mile (4:48.2) and Harrison Kee in the two-mile (10:48.2).
The girls side for Marblehead boasted five winners, helping the Magicians beat Gloucester by a score of 65-20 and then defeat Masconomet by a score of 53-33.
Wins for the Magicians came from Catherine Wager in the high jump (4-10), Devin Whalen in the 50 hurdles (8.97), Cate Trautman in the 55 dash (7.74), Claire Tips in the one-mile (6:01.1) and Katherine Simcoe in the two-mile (13:27.9). There were also a few second-place finishes, including from Claire Davis in the 50 hurdles (9.3), Grace Miller in the 300 (49.0), Lydia Bailey in the 600 (1:56.7), Juliet Poss in the 1000 (3:31.0) and Cat Piper in the two-mile (14:10.5).
Marblehead returns to the track Monday (3:45) for another tri-meet, this time against Northeastern Conference foes Beverly and Peabody.
