NAHANT — To mark the one-year anniversary since the Jan. 6 insurrection on the nation’s Capitol building, voters from several communities in the state are hosting a vigil to remember this incident and advocate for voting rights.
The “January 6 Vigil for Democracy” will take place at the Nahant rotary on Thursday from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
“Jan. 6, 2022 marks the one-year anniversary of the attack on the Capitol and the start of a very important election year,” Alix Smullin, volunteer coordinator of Swing Left North Shore/Cape Ann said. “Activists from the area are coming together in the community to commit themselves to the work for the year ahead.”
Voters from several towns on the North Shore, and 19 other towns in the state are coming together on Thursday to “voice outrage at efforts to undermine the very foundation of our democracy and call for federal-election reform — joining more than 300 grassroots organizations across the country,” organizers of the vigil said.
The vigil is being organized by the Swing Left North Shore/Cape Ann and Nahant Democratic Town Committee.
