SWAMPSCOTT ― Police are investigating a car crash that left one person dead and another critically injured on Paradise Road early Wednesday morning.
The call about a single-car crash came in at about 1:45 a.m., according to the Swampscott Fire Department. A 2005 Honda Accord reportedly lost control and crashed into a tree on Route 1A near 245 Paradise Road, traveling northbound.
There were two adult men in the car. Both suffered life-threatening injuries, said Carrie Kimball, spokeswoman for the Essex County District Attorney’s Office. Both people were transported to Salem Hospital.
The passenger of the Honda was pronounced dead at the hospital. The driver was transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston where he remains in critical condition. The DA’s Office has not released the name of the deceased, as they are waiting to confirm his identity and to notify next of kin.
The Swampscott Police and Fire departments responded to the call, as well as Atlantic Ambulance. Swampscott Police also requested mutual aid from Marblehead, Lynn and Nahant police at the time of the crash.
The accident is currently being investigated by the Swampscott Police Department, Massachusetts State Police Crash Analysis and Reconstruction and Crime Scene Services sections and the Essex County District Attorney’s Office. No charges or citations have been issued for this fatality.
