LYNN — Pickleball, a game similar to tennis but played on a smaller court, has become the fastest-growing sport in the world since the pandemic started.
Communities all over have been embracing this — creating pickleball courts — and Lynn is joining this trend by offering free pickleball clinics in the Callahan Elementary School gym beginning on Jan. 11.
Grades three through five will have two sessions of lessons on Tuesdays, starting on Jan. 11 and running until Feb. 15.
The first session will be from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. and the second session will be from 4:15 to 6 p.m.
Grades six through eight will also have two sessions of lessons being hosted on Thursdays, with the first starting on Jan. 13 and going until Feb. 17.
The first session will also be from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. and the second session will be from 4:15 to 6 p.m.
At these clinics, students will learn positions, how to grip the paddle, footwork, how to serve and shoot, a forehand and backhand stroke, rules and sportsmanship, and how to score and work with a partner on the court.
Both clinic sessions are limited to eight students, and will be canceled if there is no school on the day of the scheduled clinic.
“Join us at this free clinic to learn the strokes, rules and scoring of this extremely popular, fun and easy game,” the Parks and Recreation department said in a statement.
